Scratched Paint

Scratched through a dark layer of paint: your cat appears in light scratches.

Sgraffito: first a layer of warm colour, over it an opaque dark layer, and then your cat is scratched out of it with a blade and a palette knife. Every scratch reveals the colour beneath — broad scraped areas for the light fur and the markings, quick loose scratches for the flow of the fur, two clean scraped patches for the eyes in their true colour. The silhouette lives in the boundary between scratched and unscratched. Raw, mysterious and very tactile.
